Our dedication to environmental sustainability extends beyond projects and into the heart of communities
One example of this commitment is our sponsorship of the Community Landcare Group Friends of East Point, a local initiative focused on the restoration and preservation of valuable ecosystems in Fannie Bay, Darwin.
Mathias Paul, a Fyfe senior surveyor, has been an active volunteer for more than 8 years. He shared that the group was founded around 17 years ago in response to a proposed marina development and has been instrumental in protecting and revitalising an area that includes dry savannah forest, mangroves and wet grasslands.
“The area we care for was once a degraded dumping ground plagued by rubbish, weeds, and unplanned fires,” Mathias explains. “Our goal is to restore it to as close to a natural state as possible by removing rubbish, controlling weeds and replanting native species. The group’s efforts have paid off with the transformed area now attracting birds, marsupials, and enhancing biodiversity.
Fyfe’s sponsorship, now in its third year, plays a crucial role in supporting the group’s activities. “Having Fyfe’s support means we don’t have to constantly check our balance sheets when we need new tools or consumables like fertiliser,” Mathias says. “It allows us to focus on the actual work, like planting trees and maintaining the area”
Mathias recently celebrated his five-year anniversary at Fyfe and appreciates the alignment between his professional and personal passions. As a surveyor, he spends a lot of time in nature, and being able to contribute to its preservation in his free time is rewarding.
Looking ahead, the group is gearing up for their annual tree-planting event in January, coinciding with Australia Day. This event, supported by Fyfe, underscores our commitment to fostering sustainable practices and giving back to the communities where we live and work.
Fyfe is proud to support Mathias and the Community Landcare Group Friends of East Point, reflecting our broader commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Together, we’re making a tangible difference in preserving the natural beauty and biodiversity of our local areas.
